Are naturally fermented foods like yogurt, kefir and sauerkraut allowed?

Naturally, and traditionally fermented foods are acceptable. Do not use commercial products that have been boosted with an additional wide variety of probiotics.

Should I continue the protocol when child has fever and cold?

In general, yes, but if a child’s fever is accompanied by nausea and vomiting, one might be forced to hold off on the protocol for a few days until the child can keep everything down. There is no contraindication between the use of rifaximin, inulin, fish oil, or olive oil and typical medicines one might use when treating a fever (acetaminophen or ibuprofen).

Does The Nemechek Protocol work for fine or gross motor problems?

Yes. The Nemechek Protocol will help many childhood issues because they all have similar origins, an overgrowth of intestinal bacteria and multiple mechanisms that fuel inflammation. In addition to helping children with developmental delay and cumulative brain injuries, the Nemechek Protocol is effective in reversing sensory issues, apraxia, and fine or gross motor issues.

Is there an alternative to the liquid fish oil?

Yes, fish oil in capsules is an acceptable alternative.

Do you give fish oil before starting the protocol?

It is not necessary to start the fish oil or olive oil before balancing the intestinal track with either inulin or rifaximin.

Every time I give my child fish oil he becomes aggressive and hard to manage. What should I do?

A worsening of behaviors when administering the fish oil or olive oil to your child indicates their “leaky gut” is not fully healed. If treating with inulin or rifaximin, stop the offending oil and wait an additional 2 weeks to let the leaky gut heal. If the same reaction occurs after starting the oil, I’ll recommend changing the inulin dose to monthly rifaximin or monthly rifaximin to continuous rifaximin.

Is there a vegetarian option if your patients are allergic to fish or do not want to ingest a fish byproduct?

Maybe. There is algae-derived DHA which might be beneficial but I have never seen any of my patients on algae-derived DHA significantly improve. Autonomic improvement and recovery were believed to be medically impossible until I developed The Nemechek Protocol® and have only been realized with fish-derived DHA. The lack of EPA in algae derived DHA might be a reason for it not to seemingly work.

Where can I buy Nemechek-approved fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids)?

Nemechek Silver and other Nemechek-approve fish oils (omega-3 fatty acids) can be purchased here at a 10% discount

What is the earliest age I can give fish oil?

Although it is often not necessary, fish oil can be given safely to children as young as a few months. Likewise, if a child is breastfeeding and the mother is supplementing with fish oil, the child will receive additional omega-3 fatty acids through the breast milk. As always, I recommend that parents consult their child’s pediatrician before starting fish oil if they have concerns.

My child will not take the fish oil, can I give chai seeds which are also high in omega-3 fatty acids instead?

The essential omega-3 fatty acid for brain recovery is DHA and that is found only in the highest concentration in fish. Chia does not contain DHA, they contain a different omega-3 called ALA. ALA does not have the same beneficial effect of DHA.
